Johnny Rivers At The Whisky A Go-Go Imperial LP-9264 1964 live album

Imperial records 1964 ‎– LP-9264

 Description

Johnny Rivers at the Whisky à Go Go captures the young
Louisiana-born singer, guitarist and songwriter in the energetic
atmosphere of the legendary Los Angeles nightclub.
Recorded live during Rivers' engagement at the Whisky
in January 1964, the album blends rock & roll, blues,
R&B and New Orleans-influenced material with his
distinctive guitar and vocal style.

The repertoire includes Chuck Berry's "Memphis" and
"Brown Eyed Handsome Man," Don Gibson's "Oh, Lonesome Me,"
Lloyd Price's "Lawdy Miss Clawdy," Rufus Thomas'
"Walking the Dog," and the Johnny Rivers original "Whisky A-Go-Go."
The album closes with a lively "La Bamba/Twist & Shout" medley.

The album became Rivers' debut LP and helped establish the
distinctive live sound associated with his early Whisky a Go Go
 performances. His recording of "Memphis"
subsequently became a major hit.

Charlie Musselwhite, Harvey Mandel & Barry Goldberg – Chicago Anthology

Chicago Anthology – Rare Chicago Blues LP

Chicago Anthology album cover by Charlie Musselwhite, Harvey Mandel, and Barry Goldberg, released on Together Records ST-T-1024.

Together Records 1970 – ST-T-1024

 notes:

Chicago Anthology brings together the work of three important figures from
the Chicago blues and blues-rock scene: harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite,
guitarist Harvey Mandel, and keyboardist Barry Goldberg.

Originally released on Together Records, catalogue number ST-T-1024,
the album documents a selection of blues performances dating from
the mid-1960s. The material reflects the raw energy of Chicago's club circuit,
combining expressive harmonica, electric guitar,
organ, and a hard-driving rhythm section.

The album is particularly interesting to collectors because
it preserves early performances by musicians who would go on to
make significant contributions to blues, rock, and roots music.
Its repertoire includes interpretations of blues standards alongside
material connected to the Chicago recording scene.

Chicago Anthology is a valuable document of the electric blues sound
that emerged from Chicago's clubs and recording studios during the 1960s.
