Original Irma Thomas I Did My Part 1962 Minit Records 653 soul music vinyl single.

Minit records 1962      – 653

notes:

Few voices in American soul music carry the emotional depth
and authenticity of Irma Thomas, often celebrated as the
"Soul Queen of New Orleans." Among her early recordings,
"I Did My Part", released in 1962 on Minit Records (Catalog No. 653),
stands as another fine example of her remarkable ability
to transform heartbreak into unforgettable music.
A Classic New Orleans Soul Recording
Released during the golden era of New Orleans rhythm and blues,
I Did My Part showcases Irma Thomas's expressive vocal style that
would later inspire generations of soul and R&B singers. The single
reflects the city's distinctive musical blend of gospel, blues,
rhythm & blues, and early soul.
While many listeners know Irma Thomas for classics such as
Time Is on My Side and Wish Someone Would Care, her Minit Records
recordings helped establish her reputation
as one of the finest female vocalists of the early 1960s.

Alvin Robinson – Something You Got / Searchin' (Tiger Records TI 104)  Classic New Orleans Soul Vinyl

Original Alvin Robinson Something You Got Searchin' 7-inch vinyl single on Tiger Records TI 104 featuring classic New Orleans soul music.

Tiger Records 1964  – TI 104

notes:

Alvin Robinson – Something You Got / Searchin' (Tiger Records – TI 104)
remains one of the defining releases of classic New Orleans R&B. Released
during the golden era of American soul music, this outstanding 45 RPM single
showcases Alvin Robinson's powerful vocals and the unmistakable groove t
hat helped shape Southern soul.
The A-side, "Something You Got," became Robinson's signature recording.
Built around an irresistible rhythm, infectious guitar work, and soulful delivery,
the song quickly earned recognition among R&B audiences and would later
be covered by numerous legendary artists, proving its timeless appeal.
The flip side, "Searchin'," complements the release with another strong
performance, highlighting Robinson's expressive voice and the rich musical
tradition emerging from New Orleans during the early 1960s.
Issued by Tiger Records as TI 104, this rare single remains highly sought after
by vinyl collectors, Northern Soul enthusiasts, DJs, and fans of vintage
rhythm and blues. Original pressings are increasingly difficult to find,
making the record an important addition to any serious soul collection.
Today, "Something You Got" continues to receive airplay among collectors
and classic R&B fans worldwide. Its influence can still be heard in later soul,
blues, and rock recordings, cementing Alvin Robinson's place in American music history.
Whether you're a longtime collector or discovering classic New Orleans soul for
the first time, Tiger Records TI 104 is an essential recording that captures
the authentic sound and spirit of early 1960s rhythm and blues.

Session musicians

Unfortunately, no surviving session sheet or AFM contract has surfaced
identifying the musicians on this single. None of the standard
 discographical sources list personnel.
Given Alvin Robinson's background as a New Orleans session guitarist and
the musical style, collectors and historians generally believe the backing
band was drawn from New Orleans studio musicians associated with Joe Jones,
but this has never been documented. Any names would therefore be speculative.
Recording studio
Likewise, no recording studio has been positively identified.
The most likely possibilities are:
a New Orleans studio used by Joe Jones during 1964 (possibly Cosimo Matassa's operation),
or a New York session organized after Robinson signed with Tiger Records.
Producer: Joe Jones
"Something You Got" arrangement: Joe Jones
"Searchin'" arrangement: Mike Stoller
Tiger Records was the new label established by the songwriting/production
team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, although they are not
credited as producers of this particular single.

Willie Tee I'm Only A Man LP cover Capitol Records ST-199 1970 soul funk album

Capitol Records 1969  ‎– ST199

notes:

Willie Tee stands as one of the most underrated figures in
New Orleans soul. With the release of I’m Only A Man in 1970
on Capitol Records, he delivered a powerful mix of deep soul,
funk grooves, and socially conscious songwriting.
Often overlooked in favor of bigger names of the era, this LP
(catalog number ST-199) has since become a sought-after
gem among collectors of vintage soul and rare groove.
Recorded during a period of intense musical evolution,
I’m Only A Man captures Willie Tee’s ability to blend raw
emotion with tight, funky arrangements. The album moves
effortlessly between introspective ballads and rhythm-driven
tracks, reflecting both personal and societal themes of the early 1970s.
Backed by polished production and rich instrumentation, the record
highlights Tee’s expressive vocals and sophisticated songwriting
approach. It’s a record that feels both intimate
and expansive at the same time.

Barbara George vinyl record A.F.O. Records LP 5001 close-up label

A.F.O. records 1961   – LP 5001

notes:

Few songs capture the raw emotion of early soul music
quite like I Know You Don’t Love Me No More. Released in 1961,
this unforgettable track by Barbara George became a defining
moment in the evolution of New Orleans R&B and helped
shape the sound of modern soul.
Know You Don’t Love Me No More was released in 1961 and
quickly climbed the charts, reaching #1 on the R&B chart and
crossing over into the pop Top 10. Its success made Barbara
George one of the standout voices of early soul music.
The song blends gospel-influenced vocals with a stripped-down
rhythm and blues arrangement, creating an emotional intensity
that resonated widely with listeners. Its simple yet powerful
structure became a blueprint for many soul recordings that followed.
Barbara George was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up
singing in church—an influence that is clearly heard in her vocal delivery.
Like many soul artists of her era, her style was rooted in gospel traditions,
but she brought a distinct vulnerability and authenticity to her recordings.
Despite her early success, she never achieved the same level of commercial
impact again, making this song her signature hit. Still, her contribution to
soul music remains significant, especially within
the rich musical heritage of New Orleans.

Barbara George – Send For Me (If You Need Some Lovin’) is a
lesser-known but deeply expressive track from the early 1960s
New Orleans soul scene. Released during the period following
her major hit “I Know (You Don’t Love Me No More),” this song
captures the raw emotional style that defined her brief yet influential career.
“Send For Me (If You Need Some Lovin’)” showcases Barbara George’s
signature vocal delivery—direct, unpolished, and emotionally grounded.
Emerging from the vibrant New Orleans R&B and soul movement of the
early 1960s, the track reflects a sound rooted in gospel phrasing,
rhythmic groove, and heartfelt storytelling.
At a time when many female soul singers were gaining attention,
Barbara George stood out for her authenticity and simplicity, allowing
the emotional weight of the lyrics to carry the performance.
Barbara George was part of a generation of artists shaping what
would become classic Southern soul and R&B. Her recordings,
often released on labels like Sue Records, blended

 notes:

Japanese release of the 1967 Muscle Shoal sessions.
Issued with obi and two-sided insert containing notes in Japanese & lyrics in English.

Irma Thomas delivers one of her most powerful performances on the album
Down At Muscle Shoals, a Southern soul masterpiece recorded in the
legendary environment of Muscle Shoals. Known for its raw emotion and
tight instrumentation, this record stands as a defining moment in classic soul music.
Recorded in Alabama’s iconic Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, this album captures
the signature blend of gospel, R&B, and Southern soul that made the region famous.
Artists like Aretha Franklin and Etta James also recorded in similar environments,
but Irma Thomas brings her own emotional depth and storytelling power.
The stripped-down production allows her voice to take center stage, backed
by warm, organic instrumentation that defines the Muscle Shoals sound.
Down At Muscle Shoals stands out as one of the most authentic Southern soul
recordings of its era. Unlike heavily produced albums, this record relies on
raw feeling, minimal studio effects, and genuine musicianship.
It also reinforces why Irma Thomas is often called the “Soul Queen of New
Orleans,” bridging gospel roots with modern soul expression.
f you’re exploring classic soul music, Down At Muscle Shoals is essential listening.
It captures a moment in time when music was driven by feeling rather than production tricks.

Little Bob & The Lollipops – Nobody But You

Little Bob & The Lollipops – Nobody But You (1960s Louisiana Soul)

Little Bob and the Lollipops Nobody But You 1960s Louisiana soul album cover

La Louisianne Records 1966 ‎– LL-113

notes:

Few records capture the raw energy of 1960s Louisiana swamp soul quite
Fronted by singer Camille Bob, the group became a key act in the Gulf Coast
R&B scene, blending New Orleans rhythm & blues, swamp pop and classic soul.
Their recordings for the La Louisianne label in Lafayette produced some
of the finest regional soul records of the decade.
The song Nobody But You was originally written and recorded in 1958 by
Chicago R&B singer Dee Clark. The original version reached No. 3 on the
U.S. R&B chart and No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100,
becoming one of Clark’s early hits.
When Little Bob & The Lollipops recorded their version in the mid-1960s,
they transformed the song into a horn-driven Louisiana soul groove,
replacing the polished Chicago R&B sound with a tougher Gulf Coast rhythm section.
Recorded at La Louisianne Recording Studios in Lafayette, the track features a
classic R&B lineup of guitar, bass, drums and horns, delivering a direct, dance-floor
oriented sound typical of the regional scene.
These sessions also produced the band’s cult classic “I Got Loaded,” which later
became Little Bob’s signature song and inspired numerous covers
by artists from blues and roots scenes.
