Monty Alexander – Alexander The Great (1965)  Classic Jazz Piano Album Review

Monty Alexander Alexander The Great 1965 Pacific Jazz album cover

Pacific Jazz Records 1965           ‎               ST-86

notes:

Alexander the Great is an album by pianist Monty Alexander
recorded in 1964 for the Pacific Jazz label.
Few jazz pianists combine technical brilliance, rhythmic drive
and pure joy like Monty Alexander. His 1965 album Alexander
the Great captured the young Jamaican pianist at only twenty
years old, already displaying the dazzling technique and swing
that would define a legendary career.
Recorded in 1964 at the Esquire Theater in Los Angeles and
released by Pacific Jazz Records, this live recording revealed
a rising jazz star whose playing fused bebop virtuosity
with infectious Caribbean energy.
