Davy Jones – Live At The Lucky Star is a rare Dutch 1967
live soul recording featuring American soul singer
Davy Jones backed by the Amsterdam group Pocomania,
the band previously known as HET.
The album was recorded live at the Lucky Star,
an important Amsterdam soul club located on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat,
on 29 June 1967, between approximately 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. A
mobile recording unit from the G.T.B. studio in The Hague was
used for the session, with John B. van Setten credited as producer.
The album captures Jones performing a powerful mixture of soul,
R&B, blues and early funk, including versions of Ray Charles,
Sam Cooke, Bobby Parker, Otis/Leiber-Stoller and other soul standards.
The LP was issued in the Netherlands in 1967 on Soul Sound 30.556,
in mono/stereo editions. It is regarded by collectors as
an exceptionally rare Dutch soul/funk/garage crossover LP.
