 description:

Jesse Butler – Memphis Soul is a rare 1967 Philips LP built around
the powerful Hammond organ playing of Memphis musician Jesse Butler.
Released in stereo as Philips PHS 600-245, the album presents a
selection of blues, soul and R&B material rooted firmly in the Memphis sound.
Contemporary Cash Box specifically highlighted “Memphis After Hours,”
“Drown in My Own Tears,” “Green Onions” and “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.”

The album's repertoire also includes “Last Night,” “My Baby Loves Me,”
“Memphis,” “Tuff,” “Messy Jesse,” “St. James Infirmary” and “Hey Brother.”

The Memphis recording connection is particularly notable: research
into the period places the album in the orbit of Boo Frazier and Roy Dea,
with sessions at Hi Records' Memphis studio, and identifies
Butler as part of the Bowlegs Miller musical circle.
