New Jersey Kings – Party To The Bus Stop
updated 10/04/2026
Acid Jazz records 1992 – JAZID 33 LP
Description:
The New Jersey Kings’ Party To The Bus Stop is a raw,
groove-heavy Acid Jazz album originally released in 1992 on
Acid Jazz Records as JAZID 33. The project was a pseudonymous
offshoot of the James Taylor Quartet, allowing James Taylor
and his musicians to explore a tougher,
more spontaneous Hammond-driven sound.
Built around Hammond organ, saxophone, guitar, bass and drums,
the album combines jazz-funk, soul-jazz, rare groove and early-1990s Acid Jazz.
The music has a strong rhythmic drive and a deliberately stripped-down feel,
with instrumental tracks such as “The Monkey Drop,” “Get Organised,” “Solid,”
“Sweet Cakes,” “Sweet Shirley,” “The Latin One” and “Charlie’s Groove.”
The album is particularly notable for its live-in-the-studio character, giving
the performances a natural and energetic feel. The New Jersey Kings name
was used for this project rather than the group’s better-known James Taylor
Quartet identity. Party To The Bus Stop remains an interesting document
of the British Acid Jazz and rare-groove movement of the early 1990s.
