The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band – In the Jungle, Babe
(1969 Album Vinyl )
Warner Bros. - Seven Arts Records 1969 WS 1801
notes:
Released in 1969 on Warner Bros. Records, In the Jungle, Babe
captures
The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band at a creative peak, blending
funk,
soul, and R&B with socially aware lyrics and polished studio
musicianship.
Led by Charles Wright, the group helped shape the sound of West
Coast
funk during the late 1960s and early 1970s, standing alongside
artists
who bridged raw groove with sophisticated arrangements.
The album is notable for its tight rhythm section, expressive horn
lines,
and Wright’s distinctive vocal delivery. While best remembered for
later
hits such as “Express Yourself,” this record documents the band’s
evolution
toward the crossover success they would soon achieve.
This album is dedicated to Joe Banks and his grandma, whose great grandmother was born "in the jungle"
