Robert Parker – All Nite Long | Ron 327
updated 10/05/2026
Ron Records 1959 – 327
Description:
Robert Parker – All Nite Long is a fine example of the New Orleans
soul and R&B sound associated with one of the city’s most distinctive
recording artists. Released as a 45 on Ron Records 327, the record
belongs to the rich tradition of Southern soul, New Orleans R&B
and dance-oriented rhythm & blues.
Robert Parker’s “All Nite Long” is a classic slice of late-1950s
New Orleans rhythm & blues, released on Joe Ruffino’s Ron Records
as Ron 327 in 1959. The two-part instrumental showcases Parker’s
powerful tenor saxophone over a driving New Orleans groove,
with the musicians combining blues, rock & roll
and early R&B elements.
“All Nite Long (Part 1)” and the more explosive “Part 2” feature
a hot local rhythm section and the distinctive piano of Eddie Bo.
Part 2 is particularly notable for its wild electric guitar work by the
young Mac Rebennack, later famous as Dr. John. The record
captures the raw, loose and highly rhythmic character of
the New Orleans studio scene of the period.
Parker had already established himself as a respected
New Orleans saxophonist, working with Professor Longhair,
Huey “Piano” Smith and Eddie Bo before recording under his
own name. “All Nite Long” became his first notable solo
release and reached the national charts, while its energetic
Part 2 remains a sought-after example
of New Orleans rockin’ R&B.
Line-up / Musicians:
Robert Parker – tenor saxophone, vocals / shouted comments
Auguste Dupont – tenor saxophone
Eddie Bo (Edwin Joseph Bocage) – piano
Edgar Blanchard – guitar
Frank Fields – bass
Charles “Hungry” Williams – drums
A separate contemporary account specifically identifies
Mac Rebennack (later Dr. John) as the electric guitarist on Part 2,
while the detailed session listing above credits Edgar Blanchard.
This suggests that session personnel documentation is inconsistent;
for a collector's post, I would avoid presenting
the guitar credit as completely settled.
