 Album Description:

Released in 1972 on Cadet Records, Check This Out captures
organist Brother Jack McDuff and his ensemble in a live performance
at the Mandrake Club in Berkeley, California. Issued under catalog
number CA 50024, this album is an exciting example of early 1970s
soul-jazz, combining swinging jazz improvisation,
bluesy organ grooves, soulful melodies and funky rhythms.

Brother Jack McDuff, one of the most distinctive Hammond organ
players in soul-jazz, leads a talented group of musicians through
an energetic set that blends jazz standards with original compositions.
His expressive organ playing provides the foundation for
the band's sound, complemented by saxophones, guitar,
drums and percussion.

The album features interpretations of "Three Blind Mice" and
"Georgia On My Mind", alongside McDuff compositions such as
"Soul Yodel", "Middle Class Folk Song", "The Jolly Black Giant"
and "Red, White & Blooze".

With its live atmosphere, deep grooves and blues-inflected
improvisations, Check This Out is a rewarding listen for
fans of Hammond organ jazz, funky jazz,
rare groove and vintage soul-jazz records.
