notes:
The Crusaders – Live At Montreux 2003 captures
the legendary jazz-funk group performing at the
Montreux Jazz Festival during their 2003 return,
following the release of Rural Renewal. Founding members
Joe Sample and Wilton Felder are joined by guitarist Ray Parker Jr.,
trombonist Stephan Baxter, bassist Freddie Washington,
drummer Kendrick Scott, and guest vocalist Randy Crawford.
The performance combines classic Crusaders jazz-funk with
material from Rural Renewal. Highlights include “Spiral,”
“Viva De Funk,” “Put It Where You Want It,” “Soul Shadows,”
“Street Life,” “Rural Renewal,” and a lively version of “Ghostbusters.”
Randy Crawford takes the lead on four tracks, including
the Crusaders classics “Soul Shadows” and “Street Life,”
as well as “The Thrill Is Gone” and “Imagine.”
