The Crusaders – Rural Renewal was released by Verve Records 
in 2003, marking a major reunion of founding Crusaders 
members Joe Sample, Wilton Felder and Stix Hooper.
 The album was recorded around 2002 and released in March 2003.

The album combines the group's characteristic soul-jazz, 
jazz-funk and R&B groove with a strong selection of guest
 musicians. Eric Clapton contributes acoustic guitar on the 
title track and electric guitar on “Creepin’.” Gospel vocalist 
Donnie McClurkin appears on “A Healing Coming On” 
and “Sing The Song,” with the latter tracks also 
featuring the Sounds of Blackness.
