Morris Nanton – Soul Fingers | Prestige PRST 7467
notes:
Soul Fingers captures Morris Nanton at the intersection
of soul jazz, hard bop and Latin-inflected grooves.
His relaxed but highly rhythmic piano is supported by the
long-standing partnership of bassist Norman Edge and
drummer Al Beldini, with Johnny Murray Jr.'s congas
adding extra drive. The unusual appearance of
Pucho & The Latin Soul Brothers on “Troubles Of The World”
gives the opening track an especially distinctive Latin-soul character.
Contemporary DownBeat praised the trio while
noting the contrasting effect of Pucho's appearance.
