Herbie Hancock’s debut album, Takin’ Off, released in 1962 
on Blue Note Records, marked the arrival of a new jazz talent
 whose influence would soon reshape modern jazz. Recorded at
 the famed Rudy Van Gelder Studio, the album is a hard bop 
classic that showcases Hancock’s remarkable compositional
 skill and virtuosic piano playing.
The album is most famous for the hit single “Watermelon Man,
