Following his acclaimed Blue Note recordings, organist 
Baby Face Willette returned in 1964 with Mo' Rock, a 
deeply soulful Hammond organ session for Argo Records. 
Recorded in Chicago, the album blends gospel, blues,
 hard bop and soul jazz into an expressive organ trio
 performance that reflects Willette's unmistakable musical voice.
Backed by guitarist Ben White and drummer Eugene Bass,
 Willette delivers an energetic collection of original compositions 
alongside inspired interpretations of standards including
 "But Not for Me" and "Misty." The title track and "Zip Five" 
showcase his powerful Hammond B-3 sound, while 
"Bantu Penda" and "Sight in Darkness" reveal the trio's 
blues-infused improvisational chemistry.
Although often overshadowed by his Blue Note masterpieces,
 Mo' Rock remains an essential recording for collectors of 
soul jazz and vintage Hammond organ music. Its warm 
Chicago groove, gospel roots and swinging performances
 make it one of the hidden gems of the Argo catalog.
