After Hours – Richard Groove Holmes (Pacific Jazz, 1961)
notes:
After Hours
is one of the most soulful and intimate recordings
by jazz organist
Richard “Groove” Holmes, released on the
Pacific Jazz
label in 1961. Blending blues feeling, swinging jazz phrasing and
late-night club atmosphere, this album stands as a prime example
of
West Coast organ jazz
at its most relaxed and expressive.
Recorded in
Los Angeles, After Hours captures Holmes in a stripped-down
trio setting, allowing his
Hammond organ
to take center stage.
The result is a warm, smoky soundscape that feels tailor-made
for late-night listening — true to the album’s title.
