notes:

Few names in blues history carry as much weight as Elmore James.
Known as the “King of the Slide Guitar,” his raw, electrified sound
helped define the Chicago blues era. Backed by his band, the Broomdusters,
James created recordings that still influence blues and rock musicians today.
On the flip side, “Make My Dreams Come True” offers a slightly different
mood while staying rooted in the blues tradition. The groove feels more upbeat,
yet still carries the emotional depth that defines Elmore James’ work.
His vocal delivery here feels more hopeful, contrasting with the heavier tone
often found in his recordings. The Broomdusters provide tight instrumental
backing, allowing James’ guitar to remain front and center.

Musicians Line-Up (The Broomdusters)
Like many blues recordings of the era, exact personnel can vary
slightly by session documentation, but the core line-up typically included:
Elmore James – vocals, slide guitar
J.T. Brown – tenor saxophone
Johnny Jones – piano
Homesick James – second guitar
Odie Payne – drums
Willie Dixon (occasionally credited in sessions of this period) – bass

For artists like Elmore James, Flair-era recordings such as
“Hand In Hand / Make My Dreams Come True” were:
Recorded in professional LA studios (not Chicago)
Cut quickly in live takes with full band
Engineered for immediate release rather than long production
Even though Elmore James is strongly associated with Chicago blues,
many of his early 1950s recordings were actually made on
the West Coast under the Bihari label system.
Flair Records Core Sessions (1954–1955)
Studio system: Hollywood (Modern Records/RPM facilities)
