Face To Face is the remarkable Blue Note debut by Baby Face
Willette,
one of the finest Hammond B-3 organists of the early 1960s.
Recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studio, the album combines
gospel feeling, blues intensity and hard bop sophistication.
Supported by guitarist Grant Green and drummer Ben Dixon,
Willette delivers one of Blue Note's most soulful organ sessions,
making this LP a cornerstone of the soul jazz movement.

Recorded just two days after Grant Green's debut session
(Grant's First Stand), the album reunites Willette, Green,
and Ben Dixon, with tenor saxophonist Fred Jackson added to create
a powerful soul-jazz quartet. The session is regarded as one of the
defining early Hammond organ recordings on Blue Note and helped
establish the label's signature soul-jazz sound of the early 1960s.
