The Johnnie Taylor Philosophy Continues is a 1969
Stax Records album showcasing the powerful voice of J
ohnnie Taylor, one of the major figures in
Southern soul and R&B.
Released as Stax STS 2023, the album followed Taylor's
breakthrough period at Stax and combined soul, blues,
R&B and funk. The sessions brought together Taylor
with members of the celebrated Stax studio team,
including Steve Cropper on guitar, Marvell Thomas
on keyboards, Donald “Duck” Dunn on bass and
Al Jackson Jr. on drums. Don Davis produced the sessions.
For collectors, STS 2023 is an important Stax-era Johnnie Taylor LP,
connecting the singer's commanding Southern soul style with
the musicians and sound associated
with the Memphis Stax studio tradition.
