Jimmy McGriff – Something To Listen To (Blue Note BST 84364) is a superb
 example of early-1970s organ soul jazz. Recorded in New York in autumn 
1970, the album combines McGriff’s Hammond organ sound with blues,
 jazz standards and funky grooves.

The six-track program includes “Indiana (Back Home Again in Indiana),” 
“Malcolm’s Blues,” “Satin Doll,” “Deb Sombo,” “Something To Listen To” 
and “Shiny Stockings.” The album mixes familiar standards with McGriff 
originals and highlights his powerful, blues-rooted approach to jazz organ.

Jimmy McGriff is joined by tenor saxophonist Arthur “Fats” Theus, 
while other session personnel are not consistently identified
 in the available discographic sources.

“Deb Sombo” is particularly interesting for collectors and organ-jazz fans, 
as McGriff is also noted for playing piano on this track. The album has a 
relaxed but deeply grooving character, making it an appealing 
crossover between jazz, soul jazz, blues and funk.
