Richard “Groove” Holmes (1931-1991) was a major figure in the
soul-jazz
movement, known for his powerful Hammond B-3 sound and his
crossover
success with the hit version of “Misty.”
His style mixed blues, gospel and jazz improvisation, making him
one
of the most influential organists of the 1960s.
