notes:

Released in 1966, Soul Session by Junior Walker & The All Stars
is a powerful showcase of raw Motown soul, R&B, and instrumental
funk energy. Known for their gritty saxophone-driven sound,
the band helped define a more rhythm-heavy and dancef
loor-oriented side of Motown.
Following the success of earlier hits like “Shotgun,” this album
further cemented their reputation as one of the most distinctive
and groove-focused acts of the 1960s.
This album sits at the crossroads of instrumental soul and vocal R&B,
highlighting Junior Walker’s unmistakable saxophone style—gritty,
punchy, and deeply rooted in jump blues traditions

The original line up consisted of
Jr. Walker tenor sax
Willie Woods bass,
Vic Thomas organ,
Billy Nix drums.
