The Larks – The Jerk (Money Records LP 1102)

The Larks – The Jerk (Money Records LP 1102) | Rare Soul LP

Front cover of The Larks The Jerk LP 1102 released on Money Records, rare 1965 American soul and dance album on original vinyl.

Money Records  1965 ‎– LP 1102

notes:

Released during the height of America's mid-1960s dance craze,
The Jerk by The Larks captures the infectious energy of classic
soul and rhythm & blues. Issued on Money Records as LP 1102,
this scarce album combines upbeat dance numbers, smooth vocal
harmonies and energetic performances that made dance
records an essential part of the era's soul music scene.

Although primarily remembered for the title dance hit,
the album offers an enjoyable blend of uptempo soul,
R&B and early funk influences. Today, original Money
Records pressings are sought after by collectors of
rare soul vinyl, dance craze records and independent label releases.

For enthusiasts of vintage American soul, The Jerk remains
an entertaining snapshot of the exciting dance-floor
culture that flourished before the arrival of late-1960s funk.

Don Julian  was an American rhythm and blues, funk
and soul singer, guitarist and songwriter. Most
famous for his work as an R&B singer in the 1950's
and 1960's, he's also known for composing the soundtrack
and songs to the (so-called) blacksploitation film, Savage!
Born Donald R. Julian in Houston, Texas, United States,
in his teens he moved to Los Angeles, California, where
he began performing with local bands. He performed both
solo and with backing bands. His most famous backing group
was "The Meadowlarks" (later named The Larks (Los Angeles Band)),
although most of his film music was performed with instrumental
funk bands. The Meadowlarks is considered the first integrated
doo-wop group. In 1954, Don Julian and the Meadowlarks' debut
single "Heaven and Paradise", became popular with R&B fans.
In 1964, the single, "The Jerk" was released under the band
name, The Larks.
