The Larks – The Jerk (Money Records LP 1102)

The Larks – The Jerk (Money Records LP 1102) | Rare Soul LP

Front cover of The Larks The Jerk LP 1102 released on Money Records, rare 1965 American soul and dance album on original vinyl.

Money Records  1965 ‎– LP 1102

notes:

Released during the height of America's mid-1960s dance craze,
The Jerk by The Larks captures the infectious energy of classic
soul and rhythm & blues. Issued on Money Records as LP 1102,
this scarce album combines upbeat dance numbers, smooth vocal
harmonies and energetic performances that made dance
records an essential part of the era's soul music scene.

Although primarily remembered for the title dance hit,
the album offers an enjoyable blend of uptempo soul,
R&B and early funk influences. Today, original Money
Records pressings are sought after by collectors of
rare soul vinyl, dance craze records and independent label releases.

For enthusiasts of vintage American soul, The Jerk remains
an entertaining snapshot of the exciting dance-floor
culture that flourished before the arrival of late-1960s funk.

Don Julian  was an American rhythm and blues, funk
and soul singer, guitarist and songwriter. Most
famous for his work as an R&B singer in the 1950's
and 1960's, he's also known for composing the soundtrack
and songs to the (so-called) blacksploitation film, Savage!
Born Donald R. Julian in Houston, Texas, United States,
in his teens he moved to Los Angeles, California, where
he began performing with local bands. He performed both
solo and with backing bands. His most famous backing group
was "The Meadowlarks" (later named The Larks (Los Angeles Band)),
although most of his film music was performed with instrumental
funk bands. The Meadowlarks is considered the first integrated
doo-wop group. In 1954, Don Julian and the Meadowlarks' debut
single "Heaven and Paradise", became popular with R&B fans.
In 1964, the single, "The Jerk" was released under the band
name, The Larks.

 whose complete personnel remain undocumented.

The Spencer Davis Group Autumn '66 1966 Fontana Records TL5359 original vinyl LP album cover.

FONTANA RECORDS 1966                      TL5359

 notes:

Few British rhythm & blues bands captured the energy of the mid-1960s
quite like The Spencer Davis Group. Released in 1966, Autumn '66
showcased the remarkable vocal talent of Steve Winwood alongside
Spencer Davis, Muff Winwood, and Pete York. Issued by Fontana Records
under catalog number TL5359, the album blends blues, soul, jazz, and
early rock into a timeless collection that remains a
favorite among collectors and classic rock enthusiasts.
Autumn '66 arrived during the group's most successful period, when
Steve Winwood's soulful voice had already helped produce international hits.
Rather than relying solely on chart singles, the album explores deeper
blues influences, soulful arrangements, and polished musicianship that
reflected the band's rapid artistic growth.
Listeners will find energetic performances mixed with emotional ballads,
demonstrating why The Spencer Davis Group became one of
Britain's defining R&B acts of the decade.

credits:

Steve Winwood – lead guitar, organ, lead vocals (except where noted)
    Muff Winwood – bass
Spencer Davis – rhythm guitar, vocals (lead vocal on "Midnight Special" ,
"Dust My Blues" & "Neighbour, Neighbour")
    Pete York – drums

Although the original LP sleeve does not identify the recording studio,
period documentation and recording histories attribute the sessions to:
Island Studios, London

studio. After serving in the US military in Europe, he returned to help set up
Class Records with his father and his business partner Preston Love.
René began recording himself in 1956, with the instrumental "Wham Bam",

Their recordings covered jump blues, rock and roll, and jazz. Some of the Googie René Combo's

Herbie Goins and the Nightimers, ‎– No. 1 In Your Heart cover

Parlophone records 1967 ‎– PMC 7026

notes:

Hubert Leroy "Herbie" Goins ) was an American rhythm & blues singer.
He worked mainly in England in the 1960s, notably with Alexis Korner
and then as the leader of Herbie Goins & The Night-Timers (or Nightimers).

In 1965, Goins left Korner to front another band, the Nightimers
(or, sometimes, Night-Timers) (formed July 1964), after their singer
Ronnie Jones left. The group quickly gained a reputation, especially
among Mods, as one of the hottest R&B bands in the UK. Band
members included Mick Eve (tenor saxophone) (born Michael Eve,
21 September 1937, Walthamstow, North East London), Mike Carr
(keyboards), Harry Beckett (trumpet), David Price (bass),
Bill Stephens (drums), and Speedy Acquaye (congas).[3] In 1966,
Herbie Goins and the Night-Timers recorded "No. 1 In Your Heart",
written by Clyde Wilson (who recorded as Steve Mancha) and
Wilburt Jackson, and first recorded by Motown group The Monitors.
