Image Alt Text Jimmy McGriff I've Got A Woman Sue Records LP 1012 1962

Sue Records Inc. 1962  LP 1012

notes:

I've Got A Woman is Jimmy McGriff's debut album for Sue Records
and one of the defining early recordings of his Hammond-organ style.
The album grew out of McGriff's instrumental soul-jazz treatment
of Ray Charles' “I've Got A Woman,” which had first
appeared as a successful single.

The recording features McGriff in a stripped-down trio with Morris Dow
on guitar and Jackie Mills on drums. The combination of Hammond organ,
guitar and drums gives the record its powerful blues,
gospel and R&B character.

The LP combines standards with McGriff originals, including
“All About My Girl” and “M.G. Blues.” Other highlights include “
On the Street Where You Live,” “Satin Doll,” “'Round Midnight,”
“After Hours,” “Flying Home” and “The Sermon.”

Barbara George – Send For Me (If You Need Some Lovin’) (1962 Soul Classic Review)

Barbara George Send For Me If You Need Some Lovin 1962 soul single

 Sue Records Inc. 1962 ‎– 766

 notes:

Barbara George – Send For Me (If You Need Some Lovin’) is a
lesser-known but deeply expressive track from the early 1960s
New Orleans soul scene. Released during the period following
her major hit “I Know (You Don’t Love Me No More),” this song
captures the raw emotional style that defined her brief yet influential career.
“Send For Me (If You Need Some Lovin’)” showcases Barbara George’s
signature vocal delivery—direct, unpolished, and emotionally grounded.
Emerging from the vibrant New Orleans R&B and soul movement of the
early 1960s, the track reflects a sound rooted in gospel phrasing,
rhythmic groove, and heartfelt storytelling.
At a time when many female soul singers were gaining attention,
Barbara George stood out for her authenticity and simplicity, allowing
the emotional weight of the lyrics to carry the performance.
Barbara George was part of a generation of artists shaping what
would become classic Southern soul and R&B. Her recordings,
often released on labels like Sue Records, blended
Gospel-influenced vocals ,Minimalist instrumentation, Strong rhythmic backing
“Send For Me (If You Need Some Lovin’)” is a perfect example of this
style—intimate, rhythmic, and emotionally direct, without overproduction.

Harlem Shuffle

Bob and Earl ‎– Harlem Shuffle

Sue records 1966   ILP 951

notes:

This duo of Relf and Nelson recorded several singles for different labels,
before "Harlem Shuffle" in 1963. The song was written by Relf and Nelson,
arranged by Barry White, and produced by Fred Smith. It was based on a number
called "Slauson Shuffletime" (named after a boulevard in Los Angeles) by
another Los Angeles singer, Round Robin. When released on the Marc label
"Harlem Shuffle" became a modest hit on the R&B chart. Its vocal interplay
directly influenced later duos such as Sam and Dave. However, its main
success came as late as 1969, when it was re-released in the UK and became
a Top Ten hit there. Reportedly, George Harrison called it his favourite
record of all time
